Kissimmee, Fla. -- The fifth-ranked softball team plated five runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Maryville 7-2 at the Rebel Games. Sophomore second baseman Jessica Stangarone (Brewster/Brewster) broke the game open with a two-RBI double in the final inning.
The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the top of the seventh before freshman pinch hitter Stephanie Wyman (Jefferson Township/Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) singled to drive in junior left fielder Mel Chinigo (Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, Conn.) with the game-winning run. The Bombers (7-1) added four addition runs on Stangarone's two-RBI double, an error and bases-loaded walk.
Sophomore pitcher Nicole Cade (Beaverton, Portland, Ore.) struck out a career-high 13 batters, including two in the bottom of the seventh, and improved to 3-0 on the season.
Chinigo, sophomore shortstop Erica Cutspec (Fort Plain/Fort Plain) and Stangarone each went two-for-three in the game and combined for six RBI's. Katie Wang was two-for-three with a RBI in the loss for the Saints (2-3).
Ithaca will close out the Rebel Games on Friday, March 10, when the Bombers face Coe at 2:20 p.m. and Bluffton at 6 p.m.
